LSU football: Tigers Coach Les Miles said winning streak vs. Mississippi State means nothing

Baton Rouge - Few SEC teams have dominated another in recent history like LSU has Mississippi State. Tiger teams have beaten the Bulldogs in the last 11 meetings and 18 of the last 19.

But LSU Coach Miles said that streak is of no consequence as his team prepares to play the Bulldogs in Starkville Thursday night.

"I recognize we play a quality opponent every year," Miles said on the SEC coaches conference call Wednesday. "One year doesn't lead to the next. It's a brand new challenge and brand new group of young men. It's a quality coaching staff Coach Mullen has put together. We don't make much out of it.

"Our guys can't remember back 11 years. They don't know what possibility that even is. They look at film, recognize how quality the opponent is and prepare.

Mississippi State last defeated LSU in 1999. The Bulldogs scored a disputed touchdown on fourth down late in the game to take a 17-16 victory. Before that was a 1991 victory, 28-19, in Tiger Stadium in Curley Hallman's first season at LSU. Hallman wound up going 3-1 vs. State.

This season LSU is facing Mississippi State team which leads the SEC in rushing with 321 yards per game. The Bulldogs feature the SEC's leading rusher in Vick Ballard and 250-pound quarterback Chris Relf, third in total offense with 277 yards per game.

"They do a good job with the run and pass, tremendous balance," Miles said. "The quarterback is a little more aggressive to the run than the Oregon style of attack. That piece makes a tremendous difference in Mississippi State attack.'
